nième génération is a study in inherited forms. every garment begins as a documentthat has already been copied — a pattern traced from a pattern, a photograph of aphotograph, a signature reproduced until the hand behind it disappears. we work atthe point where the copy stops pretending to be the original and becomes its ownobject. toner drifts. edges bleed. registration slips a quarter millimetre and thepage admits it was made by a machine. we keep that admission. nothing here isrestored, nothing is cleaned, nothing is returned to a first state that neverexisted. the archive is not a place we look back to; it is the material we cut into.not the first. not the last. only the next generation of an image that refuses toresolve.
